Easy Ways to Keep Your House Clean as a New Mother

It goes without saying that being a mother is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Taking care of a newborn can be hard enough, not to mention your sleep schedule will be nonexistent for a long time. As if tending to the baby isn’t already a full-time job, new mothers still need to perform life’s daily tasks with little to no assistance, making it almost impossible to get even the most simple of household chores done.

If you’re a new mother, you know how difficult it can be to keep your house in tip-top condition while balancing a newborn on your hip. If you find yourself struggling to keep your piece of San Antonio real estate tidy, here are a few easy ways to keep the house clean while spending time with your new bundle of joy.

Get as much done as you can during nap time

Any new mother can agree that the best time to get anything important done is while the baby is down for a nap, so take advantage of this time and try to get as much of the house clean as possible. If you’re going to be working in other areas of the house, it can be helpful to bring a baby monitor with you so that you can hear if the baby wakes up. It is also important to not stray too far from the house, as the baby monitor may not reach very far and you may not hear if the baby is crying. Folding laundry, sweeping the floors, and washing dishes are all household chores that can be done while the baby is sleeping, so be sure to try to get these tasks out of the way during this time.

Make a schedule

One of the best ways to make sure you accomplish all of your household duties is by planning out your week and scheduling your chores for specific days and times. If you know that you’ll have a few hours of free time on Saturday, for example, try to block off that time in advance and commit to getting certain tasks done. It can be helpful to use a dry-erase calendar to do this, as you will be able to look at it throughout the week and cross off tasks as you go.

Involve your baby

If you simply can’t avoid it but need to get work done around the house, try bringing your baby along for the ride! One way to do this is by using a baby carrier to keep your little one close to you as you tidy up around the house. Things like folding laundry, putting away dishes and even grocery shopping can be done with the company of your baby- just be sure to keep them entertained at the same time! Doing chores with your baby can be a fun bonding experience for both of you, so consider bringing them along the next time you need to check a few tasks off of your to-do list!
